Filming Desperate housewives and Thanksgiving by Zayne Comment (7)

I had a wonderful time filming Desperate Housewives the cast and crew were awesome! I would have to say Larry Shaw is one of my Favorite directors to work with. I can't really say which of the cast I worked with from DH but I can say that She is one of the best! She gave me so much to work with that I was able to give my character what he needed. It was a great experience! I can't wait for all of you to see it. It is suppose to air in January!

We went to my Grandma's for Thanksgiving. I had a great time hanging with my cousin Logan. We are the same age and always have a blast when we are together. We had a fabulous feast on Thanksgiving day. My mom made pecan pie which is my favorite. The best part about the day is Jayde's Lexus commercial starting airing! We finished our trip off by stopping in Vegas to see Bonnie and Clyde's car. My Dad was telling me about their story on the way down so we made a stop on the way home at Prim Casino. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I know that I have a lot to be grateful for this year. I have been very blessed and have been able to follow my DREAMS!

I booked Desperate Housewives!!!!! by Zayne Comment (1)
Hey Everyone!!! I wanted to let you know that last night I found out I booked Desperate Housewives. I am very excited. It was kinda a long process so I am so happy that I got great news last night to make for a awesome weekend. I can't really say much about the role but it is very challenging and has helped me grow as an actor. Also this weekend my the short film I did Mercy is playing at the Santa Monica Film Festival! I am very excited about that. I have not seen it yet, so I will get to see it for the first time. The films for festivals have to be submitted and then they only choose so many, so we are all very proud that it was chosen and is rumored to be accepted for the Malibu Film Festival as well. I Love living my dream and am very grateful to my Mom and Dad for supporting me in this. I have been very blessed!!! Go out and Live your DREAMS!!!!

Halloween and School by Zayne Comment (1)

Hey everyone I wanted to let you know that things are going great in California! I just started a new school and love it. I really like all of my teachers and have made some new friends. I Have one teacher that is very challenging but I really enjoy it. A couple of weeks ago was Halloween. It is crazy here for Halloween. We went trick or treating in Toluca Lake. People decorate their houses all up, there was even a couple of houses that had haunted houses in their back yard. One house even had a Halloween movie playing on the side of their house. Most the the people handing out candy dress up too, and not just simple costumes, like full on hair and make-up like in the movies, but I guess I am living where all the magic happens for that kinda stuff. We went to Bob Hopes House and they were handing out magnetic dart boards that said on them "Happy Halloween from the Bob Hope Family" I thought that was pretty cool. We got to go inside some famous peoples yards. They always have them gated off but Halloween night they were open and passing out candy.

'This is my dream' By Starla Pointer of the News Register

IMG_1288

When Zayne Emory describes some of the key events that led to his current work as an actor in Hollywood, he punctuates the conversation with a telling phrase: “That was great.”

The McMinnville native has had a lot of great experiences already, it seems — great because he has found them enjoyable and rewarding, and great because his good attitude and work ethic has made sure of it.

“You have to be very motivated to do this,” said the young actor, who turned 11 in June. “This is my dream. I love doing it and I work hard at it.
“A casting director can usually tell if you really want to be doing this,” he added. “They realize that I do.”

In just a couple of years, Zayne has gone from singing with the Yamhill County Singers and acting at Gallery Theater to guest-starring on the prime time CBS show “Criminal Minds.” He’s done a nationally aired Audi commercial, played a leukemia patient in a Sundance Film Festival selection and made a pilot for an ABC sitcom he’s hoping will be picked up midway through the season.

He’s been to more than 100 auditions, trying his best each time.

“You want to show your best and look your best,” he said. “Casting directors have to fall in love with you for you to get the part.”
Still, he said, “You don’t get everything you audition for. You have to fit. Sometimes they’re just not looking for a boy who’s tall, looks about 12 and has brown hair.”

Zayne now lives in Los Angeles much of the time with his mother, Amy, and younger sister, Jayde. Their father, Rod, flies down from McMinnville frequently, and the whole family spends time in Oregon on holidays and other occasions.

In McMinnville, Zayne attended the Montessori School and the International Community School. In L.A., he is tutored.
“I love school, especially math and English,” said Zayne, who writes a blog for fun.

Zayne said he is extraordinarily fortunate to have such great parents. They support him 100 percent, without pushing him.
“I wanted to act and sing, so we tried it out,” he said, comparing his own happy situation to those of some child actors who’ve told him their families pressure them work. “This is my thing. My parents will support me in whatever I want to do.”

When Zayne showed an interest in singing, his parents let him join the Yamhill County Singers. Robin Pedersen, who directs the after school group, was very encouraging, he said.

“That was great,” Zayne recalled.

In the fall of 2007, Pedersen and her husband, Mark, were directing “Scrooge” at Gallery. They encouraged the 9-year-old to try out, and cast him as Tiny Tim.

It was Zayne’s first acting experience. He loved learning the fundamentals of theater and performing for a live audience.
“That was great,” said Zayne, who received Gallery’s “Best Youth Debut” award for the role.

Later, he was cast alongside older students in a production of “Our Town” at McMinnville High School. He kept singing, too, studying with Carlene Minor and winning one of the 10 top spots in the Oregon State Vocal Championship, held at the Nazarene Church on the Hill.

“That was awesome,” he said. “I had a good year.”

After seeing an ad for a talent search, Zayne auditioned. He was one of 200 judged rising stars nationally, which led to him finding an agent and heading for Hollywood.

“I had to decide between Hollywood and doing ‘Peter Pan’ at Gallery,” he said. “I decided on Hollywood.”

Zayne’s first big assignment was the Audi commercial.

The 30-second spot begins with Zayne and other students running out of a school at the end of the day, only to find that all the parents’ cars look alike. Then — ta, da! — an Audi arrives and picks up one of Zayne’s classmates.

Never having done a commercial, Zayne expected the filming to be quick and simple. But he learned differently.

Just the first scene took a whole day, as the students emerged from the schoolhouse again and again.

“I realize they have to put a lot of work into it, shoot a lot of footage, for just 30 seconds,” he said. “It was a huge cast and crew, and they had to set up lighting and do story boards. Everything has to be perfect when it comes to a commercial.”

Zayne kept auditioning, and soon was chosen for the short film, “Mercy.” “That went great,” he said, recalling how he played a dramatic role for the first time.

He played a boy with leukemia whose parents are struggling with a number of decisions. “I had to cry and die,” he said.
Working with an acting coach, he learned to tap into his emotions.

To cry for the scene, he said, he actually thought of something happy.

“I thought about Dad and Mom and how much they love and support me. That brings water to my eyes,” he said.
More auditions led to a comedy role in a pilot for a new Disney show, “I’m in the Band.”

The show was picked up, and Zayne filmed a role in the fifth episode, which has yet to be shown. He plays a boy who has broken his leg while on stage with the band.

“My character is annoying and a pest,” he said. “My name is Charles, but I don’t like to be called ‘Chucky,’ so that’s what they call me. I had to get red in the face and scream.”

The character was a stretch, he said — very unlike his own personality.

“It’s not natural to me to be annoying,” he said. “I’ve always been a good boy and my parents have rules. I didn’t know I had it in me to be a pest.”

Playing the atypical role was fun, he said. “And that’s the most important part, to have fun at what you’re doing,” he said.
Zayne admires actors like Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford and Neil Patrick Harris, and director Steven Spielberg, because they relish what they are doing.

Zayne also filmed another comedy pilot that could give him a steady acting job, if ABC picks up the show.

The show, called “This Little Piggy,” features some actors that Zayne had seen an admired on television or in movies. Brandy Norwood from “Moesha” and Laura Ann Kesling of “Bedtime Stories” are in the cast, along with Rebecca Creskoff, who is known for playing the mother of the Jonas Brothers.

The writers were alumni of “Mad TV.” “That was a wonderful experience,” he said.

He enjoyed watching the production unfold, in addition to being in the show. He was intrigued by the set, which on TV appears to be a whole house, but in reality is just partial rooms. And he liked watching the lighting crew work.

Preparing and filming the half-hour comedy took a whole week. The actual performance took place in front of a live audience, something Zayne was used to from his Gallery days.

Zayne particularly liked acting in the pilot, because it offered him an opportunity to stretch.

“It’s different to get into that comedic place, to go from a commercial to a serious role to comedy,” Zayne said. “I didn’t know I had comedy in me, but when I tried it, it just came out.”

Guest starring on the “Criminal Minds” took Zayne in yet another direction. In the drama series, he played a youngster who is kidnapped.

“I had to act scared and emotionally be in that place where he would have been,” he said. “I had to play it like it was really happening.”

The other cast members helped him get into the role — especially the actor who played the villain. “He was really nice in person, but he really could play that character,” Zayne said. “He actually scared me in that scene, which helped.”

The whole experience? “It was great,” he said.

The “Criminal Minds” role is one of his favorites, along with that of the pesky boy in “I’m in the Band.” In both cases, he had great casts to work with.

“They never complained and they were always willing to do the work,” he said. “It was an amazing opportunity to be part of that.

“I felt proud of the job I did on both those shows.”

Since Zayne still is fairly new to the business, watching himself on television is a novelty. His family planned to get together to watch the “Criminal Minds” episode, for instance, and you can bet they will be glued to the TV set weekly if “This Little Piggy” gets picked up.

And when his commercial comes on, everyone in the family gets excited. “We race into the room to see it,” he said.

On Set and Taping of I'm in the Band by Zayne Comment (0)

Last Wednesday was my first day on set for I'm in the Band. My Dad was down here and was able to go with me. We started out by having a table read with producers them an hour later we had a table read for network. The rest of the day we started to work on blocking the scenes. Meeting the cast for the first time was great. Everyone was very nice and made me feel a part of their family. The next day we worked more on blocking and had to learn some new lines they had changed the script a little bit. That afternoon we had a producers run through and they did things a little bit different. We would do each scene and then the producers and writers and director would discuss what didn't work or what they would like to change. Other run through that I have done, we do the run through of all the scenes and then the producers and writers and director meet and make the changes. On Friday we worked really hard to get everything ready for Network run through. Network came that afternoon and they all laughed and really liked it. Monday we pre-shot all of the scenes we would not be doing live in front of the audience. Most of my scenes were done live, which was a lot of fun. On Tuesday we blocked and ran through the scenes we were doing that night. The live taping began about 5:00. It was a blast I had done a show in front of a live audience before but this one was a lot more fun. My character was a little bit crazy with a temper, so I got to brake a couple of guitars. I can't give all of the story away but this is a great show that I think parents will enjoy watching with their kids. I am so glad that I got to be a part of this. My DREAMS a happening right before my EYES!!!!

I Booked I'm in the Band!!!! by Zayne Comment (3)
On Tuesday I had a callback for I'm in the band!!! I felt like my audition went so awesome. After that audition I had another audition for House MD. I went and did my House audition but it was killing me to know if my agent Jay had gotten any feed back from I'm in the Band, So I called him and he told me they were deciding between me and one other kid. Jay also told me I got a callback for House for the next day. The only problem was I was on set for Criminal minds the next day, so we did not know if I would make the House callback. I did not make the House callback cause we did not get done in time from Criminal Minds. I was kinda bummed but hoped that the reason I was not able to make it to House was cause House and I'm in the Band film at the same time. So If I Booked House I could not do I'm in the Band, I'm in the Band is a much bigger role. Well yesterday morning we got a call from my agent Jay and he tricked us thinking that they went with the other kid but they didn't, I got the Part. I am so excited it is a Guest star role which means that you are in a lot of the scenes and the story is about my character. I'm in the Band is a new show on Disney!!! I have been so blessed and am very grateful to be able to follow my DREAMS!!!

Criminal Minds Set Day #2 by Zayne Comment (0)
Today for the first part of the day we were filming out at Disney Ranch it has a great setting for the scenes. The other two boys that are in the episode were working too so I got to meet them, They are really nice and talented kids. I was only in one scene at Disney Ranch so after we were done filming the scenes there we did a company move to a new location about 15 miles away. It is crazy to watch them pack everything up so quickly and be moved on to the next place. I love working in the summer cause I don't have to go to school so I can stay on set and watch everything. I don't just love the acting part I also love to see how the show comes together and all the behind the scene stuff. It is so awesome being able to Live My DREAM!!!

First day on set for Criminal Minds by Zayne Comment (0)

Today was my first day on set for Criminal Minds. My call time was 2:00, they had us arrive a little bit early so that we could have lunch and then they had me take a brake. I was on set at 3:00. Today we were filming a scene were I am riding in a car, because I can't do all of the scenes I have a stunt double. Everyone was really nice and great to work with. We were done earlier than planned cause everything went so well. We only had to do each scene a couple of times each. The director, Jon Cassar was happy with the takes and we were done at 7:30. It was different that doing a sitcom, a sitcom pretty much films in order of how the show goes but with this you film different pieces at a time then they put it all together. I love Living My DREAM!!!!

Booked Criminal Minds on CBS by Zayne Comment (1)

On Friday I had an audition for Criminal Minds for CBS. My Dad was down for the weekend and took me to the audition. I felt very comfortable and ready for my audition, I have met the casting director and his assistant before at Actorsite. My audition went awesome and about an hour later My manager Todd and my agent Jay called to tell me the great news. At first they tricked me and asked how I thought my audition went, they had me thinking it didn't go as great as I thought. Then they couldn't hold back and let me know the truth! They also told me that I booked a different role than the one I auditioned for.  I am sooooo excited! Just one more of my Dreams coming true!!!!

Below is a photo of Jayde hanging out of the window in front of Disney Studios. While I was in for an audition she was looking for stars. The security guard thought she was a stalker.

Back in California! by Zayne Comment (0)

I am back in California, we came back last Thursday. We spent the 4th of July with some friends that we met down here, they are actors too. We had a pool party at their apt. then we headed over to CBS studios, they had venders, bands playing, food and Fireworks. We had one of the best times. We could not let off our own fireworks because California is so dry but CBS did a really cool firework show!

This week I have been busy auditioning, started acting lesson again. It feels good to be back here and be back in the swing of things. After being gone and coming back I know that acting is my passion for sure. I really enjoy it!

Today after I had an audition, we headed to Universal to play at the water park. We went with some friends of ours. I love the California sunshine. I am having a great summer!

Stay tuned as I continue to follow My DREAMS!!!

Mercy Short Film by Zayne Comment (1)

On Saturday I shot Mercy the short film that I was cast in. We spent the first part of the day hanging out with my Dad then headed over to Actorsite where I did a mock audition then we headed to the set of Mercy. I believe I told you about the film in an earlier blog. It is where I play a kid dying of cancer. It deals with what can happen to a family under stress and trials. It went really well and didn't take to much time since it is a short film, the whole thing will only be about 10 to 15 mins long. It will be submitted to all the film festivals and we will see how people receive it. I will post some pictures so you can see a little bit about it. I am continuing to live my DREAM and loving life!!!!

On Set Day 5 This Little Piggy Live Audience by Zayne Comment (3)

Today was the big day Yeah!!!! My Dad, my Mom and Myself arrived on set at 1:00. My Dad had flown in on Thursday so that he could be here with me. When we got there I took My Dad and showed him around so he could see what I had been doing all week.

The first thing that we did was run through the entire show to make sure that everything was ready and was how the producers wanted it. The cast was excited and nervous, except for me, I was only excited.

After we ran through the show I had to finish up some school work and then we headed to a dinner for cast and crew. I would have to say one of my favorite parts is all the good food! After we finished up dinner we headed to make-up and wardrobe. It is a lot of fun having someone get you all ready and make sure you look  good.

Before the show started the cast, producers, director, and writers  did a speed read and pumped ourselves up. Then we headed to the set. They had music and a guy entertaining the crowd. First they did introductions, it was really cool to hear my name called out.

We started doing each scene and the producer and writers  would change some of the lines to make it funnier and see the audience respond. After the show was over they did a curtain call and we got to come out again.

I enjoyed working with everyone so much. It is such a great show, I hope all of you get to see it. The writers are amazing and incredibly funny. Everyone was so talented and the cast all worked so natural together. We seemed to fit like a real family. I had a great experience working with everyone. There are so many people behind the scenes who work so hard to make the show great. I know that it is my DREAM for the show to make it!!!!!

On Set Day 2 This Little Piggy by Zayne Comment (0)

My call time for this morning was 8:30, When we got here I went to craft services and got breakfast, then headed off to school. My sister and I on the show have an earlier call time than the rest of the cast. That is so that we can get an hour of school in before everybody else gets here. When they get here we start rehearsing.

We worked on the scenes more today and added props. Some of the lines had been changed so we had to go over all of that. We were really working hard cause at 4:00 we had a network run through. Network does not usually come so soon but they did cause we are on a tighter schedule. I think they really enjoyed it. They were laughing. It is a very funny show.

After network had left, the cast all meet together and the producers, writers, and director told us we did a awesome job and really stepped  up our game and that they appreciated that.

I had a lot of fun today and I am learning tons. What a Dream!!!

On Set Day 1 This Little Piggy by Zayne Comment (0)

My call time today, for This Little Piggy was 8:30. When I got here I headed straight for wardrobe then I had to go to a table read. Last Thursday we had a table read with ABC and after the table read, they made notes and made some changes to the script. So we had another table read this morning with just the cast, writers, directors , and producers, to go over the changes that had been made.

After the table read was done, we started to rehearse the scenes.  The director gave us blocking and we worked on how it should all flow. In between working on the scenes we did school work, I really like my set teacher.

When we got here this morning the set was pretty much finished, it is cool to see how it all comes together. I really enjoy the the cast, everybody is great to work with. My little sister on the show reminds me of Jayde, which is fun.

I will post some pictures so you can see how it all looks. We will work all week, then on Friday we preform in front of a studio audience. I know that I have found my DREAM!!!

The Director drives a GT3 so we have a few things in common.
